After coming up with notches, punch holes, and pop-up cameras, the smartphone manufacturers, have finally found a way to attain a true full-screen display with the help of under-display cameras.
For a long time, we have been hearing about in-display camera tech being developed by different manufacturers. ZTE also has been teasing its in-display camera tech for weeks. It has now finally announced ZTE Axon 20 5G, the world’s first commercial smartphone with an under-display selfie camera.
The phone sports a 6.92-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Apart from the 32MP under-display camera, the phone also has an in-display fingerprint sensor.
On the inside, ZTE Axon 20 is powered by Snapdragon 765G chipset with three different RAM and ROM storage options — 6GB + 64GB, 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB.
The device runs its Android skin called ZTE’s Mifavor 10.5, which is based on Android 10. It has a 4,220 mAh battery and supports 30W fast charging.
At the rear, Axon 20 offers a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP lens for macro photography.
Although ZTE is the first to bring an under-display camera smartphone to the market, it won’t be the only one. Not long ago, Xiaomi teased its 3rd generation under-display camera tech, which it plans to mass-produce in 2021. Apart from that, Oppo and Samsung have also previously shown promising results with their in-display camera tech.
The ZTE Axon 20 5G will be available in China starting September 10. The base variant with 6GB + 128GB storage option is priced at CNY 2,198 ~ ₹23,500. Meanwhile, the 8GB + 128GB option costs CNY 2498 ~ ₹26,750 and the 8GB + 256GB option costs CNY 2798 ~ ₹30,000.
