Xiaomi announced MIUI 12 back in May. Since the launch, the company has been busy issuing MIUI 12 updates to all the supported devices. But that hasn’t stopped Xiaomi from focusing on the next iteration of the OS, which is MIUI 13.
The engineers at Xiaomi have confirmed that MIUI 13 is under development. The developers revealed this news at a Q&A session, which was later posted on the MI Community.
As of now, the engineers are focused on improving the animations “to make the animation run more smoothly.” In other words, Mi fans can again expect to see a set of new animations and UI enhancements.
A few days ago, a leaked screenshot showcased a new power-off animation with a two-way slider. It is speculated that the new animation will make way either for the next MIUI 12 update or for the freshly baked MIUI 13.
This is not the only big thing revealed at the Q&A session, the Xiaomi engineers also said that they are also planning to bring back the MIUI Developer ROM project. However, the number of testers allowed will be limited.
Mi fans involved in the project are allowed to test new features way earlier than MIUI stable beta testers. Xiaomi already has MIUI Developer ROM project in place for its Chinese testers. It would make Global testers extremely happy if Xiaomi decides to reignite the MIUI Developer ROM project.
However, in a later statement, Xiaomi clarified that the decision to bring back the project has not been taken, and its “resumption is not 100% sure yet.” So we wouldn’t recommend Mi fans get their hopes too high.
