Yesterday, at Tesla’s Battery Day event, the EV maker announced the Model S Plaid with breathtaking specifications. Tesla Model S Plaid will have an EPA range of 520+ miles, a top speed of 200 mph, and would sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 2.0 seconds. With these specifications, Model S Plaid is the new top-end variant of its flagship sedan.
For reference, the current Tesla Model S provides an electric range of 402 miles, 0 to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph.
Also, as mesmerizing, the specifications of the new Model S Plaid is, it comes at a hefty price. Tesla introduced it with a price tag of $139,990, which is $45,000 more than its current performance variant. The cost of the Model S Plaid is a little more than that of ‘Lucid Air Grand Touring,’ which is priced at $139,000. Lucid Air is the newest rival of the Model S in the market.
Model S Plaid is available for order at the official website of Tesla. However, deliveries will only start at the end of 2021.
Around the same time, Lucid Motors plans to hit the high-performance variant of its electric car, Air Grand Touring. It seems Model S Plaid is the answer to the upcoming Lucid Air. This newbie attracted many EV enthusiasts with its impressive 517-mile electric range and luxurious appeal.

More About Tesla Model S Plaid
We have been reporting on Tesla Model S Plaid since the first time its prototypes were in testing. At the time, we knew that the Model S Plaid would be an out-of-the-league car. However, we didn’t expect it to cross the 500-mile bar so soon. Also, in terms of performance, Model S Plaid sounds more than impressive.
Tesla claims it’s the only thing beyond the Ludicrous mode that allowed the Model S to complete 0 to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds. However, Model S Plaid takes the electric sedan on an entirely different level. Unlike the current generation Model S, the Plaid variant will be powered by a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system.
Additionally, with a 0 to 60 mph timing of less than 2.0 seconds, it will be the quickest accelerating production car in the world. Furthermore, Tesla claims the electric car can do quarter-mile in less than 9.0 seconds. Earlier this month, Lucid Air surprised everyone by beating Tesla Model S in a drag race and completing the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds. However, with the new Model S Plaid, it can once again lead the squad.
In the end, we would say that without a doubt, the new Model S Plaid is as impressive as the electric car has always been. However, the automaker has released both its specifications and price significantly, considering its rival Lucid Air.
