Qualcomm, one of the most popular processors manufacturing firms in the world has introduced Quick Charge 5 technology. Quick Charge 5 tech has the ability to offer 100W charging speed on a smartphone. Apart from that, the company also claimed that Quick Charge 5 will fuel a device’s battery from 0 to 50% in 5 minutes and will completely charge it in 15 minutes.
Qualcomm has claimed that Quick charge 5 is 70% more efficient than Quick Charge 4. The new charging tech will provide four times the fast-charging speed and will run on a 10 degree Celsius cooler temperature than its predecessor.
The smartphones with Quick Charge 5 will support a higher input voltage than 20V from both wired and wireless sources.
It is also being said that Quick Charge 5 comes with a USB Power Delivery Programmable Power Supply (PD-PPS) that lets it control the current levels and the voltage at the time of charging. Quick Charge 5 also comes with support for 2S battery systems for two battery cells that doubles the charging voltage and increases the charging speed.
The best part about Quick Charge 5-rated hardware is that it will be compatible with older Quick Charge accessories and devices too. Currently, almost 1200 accessories and smartphones leverage previous Quick Charge techs including 2.0, 3.0. 4.0 and 4.0+. Speculations are that the world will witness the first Quick Charge 5 integrated phones from the third quarter of 2020.
