Over the last two months, we reported the major release of four operating systems: OpenBSD 6.8, NetBSD 9.1, MidnightBSD 2.0, and FreeBSD 12.2 from the BSD family.
As the November month has now ended, here comes yet another BSD (or, say, FreeBSD-based) distribution called GhostBSD 20.11.28 featuring MATE desktop 1.24.1. Let’s see what it has to offer:
What’s New In GhostBSD 20.11.28?
The most notable change that the latest version has added is the OS fixes for Linux binary compatibility, also known as “Linuxulator.” Linuxulator allows you to run unmodified Linux binaries on BSD distribution. With the new fixes, GhostBSD now offers better performance for running the Linux build of Steam.
In simple terms, you can run more Linux games on GhostBSD 20.11.28. Furthermore, v20.11.28 also has a new live system that uses ZFS, compression, and replication capabilities.
Among the userland updates, it includes an upgraded MATE desktop, improved Software Station performance, and other updated applications.
v20.11.28 also has bug fixes to resolve the following issues:
- Resizing Station Tweak
- Finding ghostbsd-common-settings using build.sh
- Update manager hangs when running twice too quickly
- Asks for restart even in case of small non-system package update
How To Download Or Upgrade To GhostBSD 20.11.28?
The official edition of GhostBSD comes with MATE desktop and a separate community edition with a lightweight Xfce desktop. ISO images for both editions are available for download from here (64-bit only).
If you’re already using it, you can simply update your system to reach the latest v20.11.28 and check the status using the command, which should return 20.11.21.
