The Beta Version Of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.3 Is Now Available

Following a six-month development cycle, the Red Hat team has finally released the beta version of the upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.3. The new beta succeeds the current RHEL 8.2 release to deliver more production stability and innovation to the enterprise.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.3 Beta: What’s New

RHEL 8.3 beta has introduced new system roles for system logging, system metrics, storage, disk encryption, kernel, and bootloader. The new role aims to help manage large installations by ensuring consistent and repeatable configurations at scale.

The beta also includes pre-configured Ansible playbooks to help simplify the automation and consistent configuration of common administrative tasks like allocating storage resources.

Continuing to deliver development agility with production stability, RHEL 8.3 beta has updated its Application Streams (AppStream) repository that comprises languages and tools. Here are the notable packages in Application Streams with their new version:

  • Git 2.26
  • Nginx 1.18
  • Node.js v14
  • Perl 5.30
  • PHP 7.4
  • Ruby 2.7

Another new feature of RHEL 8.3 beta is the addition of security profiles for the Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmark and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). System administrators can use these new SCAP (Security Content Automation Protocol) profiles to configure their RHEL systems based on best security practices and standards.
