Apple has released a new iOS 14 update (14.0.1) to take care of an issue that’s leaving users annoyed i.e., the bug that resets app defaults.
With this year’s iOS 14 update, Apple now allows setting third-party email apps and web browsers as default apps on iPhone. But unfortunately, when the user restarts the device, the default apps revert to Apple’s Safari and Mail apps.
Apple has also addressed the issue for iPads as part of the iPadOS 14.0.1 update.
It has been more than ten years since the release of the first iPhone, but Apple didn’t allow using non-Apple offerings as default apps on the iPhone and iPad until now. In comparison, it’s rival Android, which is known for extensive customization features, has allowed third-party default apps for years.
It was iOS 14 when Apple realized that it’s time to loosen the grip a little. That’s why the company has added more customization features to iOS 14 and even allows users to put widgets on the home screen. Apple fans can now use the Picture in Picture mode on their iPhone as well.
Without a doubt, it brings a whole new perspective in the way people use Apple’s smartphones.
Apart from the iOS 14 default apps bug, Apple has also fixed other things, including bugs that could cause problems while connecting to WiFi, prevent images from appearing in the news widget, and prevent camera previews from displaying on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
