Apple recently unveiled the next big update to its iPhone OS — iOS 14. On the surface, we saw several new features such as a new App Library, interactive widgets, interface changes in Siri, and a lot more.
Turns out, it’s just the tip of the iceberg and there are many hidden features in iOS 14 that Apple skipped during the WWDC 2020 event. One such feature is “Back Tap” that is available in iOS 14 Accessibility settings.
We’d say it’s one of the coolest features of iOS 14. You can basically double-tap or triple-tap on the back of your iPhone to open apps or perform multiple system actions such as taking a screenshot, changing the volume, and hilariously, even open the Google Assistant.
Not only can you just open the Google Assistant app, but you can even set the iOS 14 Back tap to directly open Ok Google.

How to launch Google Assistant with iOS 14 Back Tap?
In order to quickly talk to Google Assistant on iOS 14, you need to add here is what you need to do —
- Open the Google Assistant app on your iPhone running iOS 14.
- You will see a card that reads, “Add Ok Google to Siri.” Tap on “Add to Siri”.
- Again, tap on “Add to Siri.” This will add a Siri shortcut where saying Ok Google in Siri will trigger the Google Assistant.
- Go to iPhone Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.
- Select any of the two gestures — Double Tap or Triple Tap.
- Now locate the “Ok Google” shortcut and tap on it.
- Now, double-tap/triple-tap to open Ok Google on your iPhone.
Alternatively, you can manually create an OK Google shortcut via the Shortcuts app.
Since the back tap feature of iOS 14 identifies shortcuts, there is an endless number of things that you can do. You can double-tap to send a WhatsApp message or even send a tweet.
However, opening Google Assistant will always be our first choice. Of course, all of this is only possible if you have installed the developer preview of iOS 14 or followed our little trick to get iOS 14 right now without having a developer account.
