The developers of the feren OS GNU/Linux distribution are kicking off the month of May 2017 with a brand new release of their Linux Mint-based operating system.
feren OS 2017.0 "Murdock" is now available after being in development for the past several months, it's based on the latest Linux Mint 18.1 "Serena" operating system, which in turn is derived from Canonical's Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) OS, and uses the Cinnamon 3.2 desktop environment by default.
The biggest new feature of the feren OS 2017.0 "Murdock" release is the implementation of feren Welcome, the project's in-house built welcome screen that lets newcomers more easily get started with the GNU/Linux distribution once they managed to install it on their personal computers.
As expected, feren Welcome replaces the Mint Welcome tool from Linux Mint. Another change targeted at newcomers to this OS is the look of the default desktop icons, making it easier for them to access the Dark Mode, Themer, and ... (read more)
