Tata Tiago And Altroz Could Be India’s Most Affordable Hot Hatchbacks

Tata Tiago turbo and Altroz turbo variants are nearing their launch as per recent developments. The camouflaged variants of both cars were recently spotted being tested. Images of both Tata Tiago Turbo and Tata Altroz Turbo have been circulating over the internet for the past few days.

Additionally, a camouflaged test mule of Tata Tiago was recently spotted in Coimbatore, the same city where Jayem Automotive is based. In 2018, Tata Motors collaborated with Jayem Automotive to produce turbo variants of Tiago and Tigor. These turbo variants were sold under the JTP (Jayem Tata Performance) badging. For the uninitiated, JTP is a car performance brand with whom Tata Motors has collaborated in the past. Presently, Tata owns the JTP brand.

In 2020, Tata discontinued the JTP badged Tigor and Tiago due to emission norms and low demand.

The now-discontinued JTP Tiago used a BS4 compliant 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The engine had a total output of around 112 BHP and 150 Nm torque. Obviously, due to its higher-end performance, it had a price of Rs 6.39 lakh (ex-showroom).

Both Tata Tiago and Altroz are receiving a good response from the masses, which makes sense why Tata Motors wants to launch new turbo variants of these hatchbacks. However, they will be in a slightly different state of tune.

Tata Altroz And Tiago Turbo Specs (Expected)

Unlike the JTP variants, the biggest improvisation will be a BS6 compliant engine. As we know, both Tata Tiago and Altroz share the same three-cylinder 1.2-liter Revotron engine, their turbo variant will follow the same pattern.

The naturally aspirated 1.2-liter Revotron engine provides an output of around 84 BHP and 113 Nm torque. We expect the output of the turbo variant to be around 118 BHP and 170 Nm of torque. Tata Motors currently uses a turbo petrol engine in Nexon.

The price of the Tata Tiago turbo will likely be around Rs. 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom) meanwhile, Altroz petrol will cost Rs. 7.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

We will get back to you with the price as soon as the automaker reveals it.

Tata Altroz Turbo Will Rival VW Polo TSI

After the discontinuation of Baleno RS, there are only a few hatchbacks in India that offer a turbocharged engine. Currently, only Polo TSI offers a turbo engine. Tata Altroz is amazing in terms of build-quality, handling, and features. With a powerful new turbo engine, it will directly rival the turbo variant (TSI) of VW Polo.

In addition, Tata Altroz will not be as expensive as VW Polo TSI, the starting price of Polo TSI is Rs 8.01 lakh (ex-showroom).

Anyway, what do you guys think about the turbo variants of these upcoming hatchbacks?
