Linux marketshare for September 2020 fell dramatically on that of August, according to NetMarketShare who've just published their latest tracking stats.

As the Linux Mint team is progressing to release the first point version of Linux Mint 20 series, its founder and project leader Clement Lefebvre has finally revealed the codename for Linux Mint 20.1 as “Ulyssa”. He has also announced that Mint 20.1 will most probably arrive in mid-December (just before Christmas).
Until you wait for its beta release to test Linux Mint 20.1, Clement has also shared some great news regarding the new updates and features that you’ll get in Mint 20.1.
First, packaging of open source Chromium web browser and its updates directly through the official Mint repositories. As the team noticed delays between the official release and the version available in Linux distros, it has now decided to set up their own packaging and build Chromium package based on upstream code, along with some patches from Debian and Ubuntu as well.
As a result, the first test build of Chromium is available to download from here.
In last month's blog, the Mint team introduced a new WebApp Manager, inspired by Peppermint OS and its SSB (Site Specific Browser) application manager, ICE. It is a WebApp management system that will debut in Linux Mint 20.1 to turn a website into a standalone desktop application.
However, the Debian package of WebApp Manager v1.0.5 is now available to download, which comes with UI improvements, bug fixes and better translations for languages.
Another feature that you’ll be thrilled to see in Linux Mint 20.1 is the hardware video acceleration enabled by default in the Celluloid video player. Obviously, hardware-accelerated players will bring smoother playback, better performance and reduced CPU usage.
Besides the confirmed features, the Linux Mint team is also looking for feedback on a side-project by Stephen Collins, “Sticky notes.” It is a note-taking app, which is still in Alpha stage. But if all goes well, who knows, you’ll see Sticky notes app in the upcoming Linux Mint.
The Linux Mint team has also asked for opinion on IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). If you use M3U IPTV on your phone, tablet or smart TV, you can let them know. The team seems interested to develop an IPTV solution for Linux desktop as a side project if the audience is small or turn it into an official Linux Mint project, if demand is good enough.

Last week, an anonymous hacker leaked a 43GB file on 4Chan containing the alleged source codes of several older versions of Windows OS, including Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and more.
Now, the leaked source codes’ authenticity has been confirmed as a Windows developer has managed to compile his own version of Windows XP and Server 2003 from the leaked code.
A Windows developer named “NTDEV” who also owns a Youtube channel, decided to compile the leaked source code to check whether the code is original or not. He has posted videos online, showing that the code is indeed real as he managed to compile Windows XP over the weekend and Windows Server 2003 yesterday. However, he did mention that the leaked code lacked some critical files such as Winlogon.exe, which is required to install the operating system.
Speaking to ZDNet, NTDEV said, “Certain files, such as the kernel and the Explorer can be compiled easily. I have tried some programs from the compiled source of XP, and it seems that they are identical to the retail versions of Windows.” According to NTDEV, except for the missing files, the leaked source code can be used to compile all the SKUs, as well as free (optimized) retail builds.
NTDEV said that the source code of Windows Server 2003 is more complete than the XP one. He was successful in compiling the operating system and installed it on a virtual machine without much issues.
Now that it has been assured that the leaked code is indeed authentic, Microsoft needs to acknowledge it publicly and warn users of the possible implications of the massive leak.

PS Plus free games for October have finally been announced on PlayStation’s official blog. The subscribers of the online service can pick up Need for Speed: Payback and Vampyr for free from Oct 6-Nov 2.
For those who don’t know, PlayStation Plus is a paid service that offers users online gaming access, free cloud storage, special discounts, and most importantly, two free games every month.
Need for Speed: Payback is another adrenaline-pumping racing simulation in EA’s globally famous series. The 2017 game is set in the fictional city of Fortune Valley, which is based on Las Vegas. You can choose between three unique characters, each with their particular traits.
The open-world racing game is packed with action movie-like racing sequences. There are a plethora of vehicles you can drive, including Aston Martin, Jaguar, Koenigsegg, etc.
On the other hand, 2018’s Vampyr is an action RPG that takes you to the quaint streets of 1918 London. You play as Jonathan Reid, who is a doctor by day and vampire by night.
The story is based on your decisions, so make sure you don’t make the wrong ones under the influence of Reid’s bloodlust. The third-person game comes from Dontnod Entertainment which also developed the popular episodic game, Life Is Strange.
As new games take over on Oct 6, September’s free PS Plus games — PUBG and Street Fighter V — will go back to their normal prices. So, if you haven’t claimed them yet, make sure you do not miss out. The final chance to grab last month’s games is Oct 5.
With NFS Payback and Vampyr, PlayStation has made sure it caters to two distinct gaming audiences this time.
The racing game junkies can take their customized sports car for a spin in NFS Payback. Whereas, those who are into story-heavy singleplayer campaigns can don the garb of a 20th-century vampire in Vampyr.

Rogue Company is a multiplayer tactical shooter game published by Hi-Rez Studios. The game was in close beta for a long time; however, Hi-Rez Studios decided to put Rogue Company in Open Beta, which means the game is now completely free to play.
Players can download the free-to-play Open Beta of Rogue Company on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. However, for PCs, the game is exclusively available only on Epic Games Store.
For those of you who don’t know, Rogue Company is quite similar to games like Valorant and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. In the game, you play in a four-player team to go against another team in several game modes. At the start of each round, players can buy weapons, perks, and grenades using the credits. The number of credits you earn will depend on your performance in each round.
However, unlike Valorant or CS:GO, Rogue Company is a third-person shooter. So, if you’re one of those players who prefer TPP over FPP, then Rogue Company is the right game for you.
