Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors (GWM) may finally enter the Indian market despite ongoing conflicts between India and China. As per the reports, the Indian government may allow the automaker to use the manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra. The facility was formerly under the possession of US auto giant General Motors.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Indian authorities. Meanwhile, one of GWM’s officials told a newspaper, “We are hopeful of hearing from the government soon on investment clearances. GWM is a global company and committed to contribute significantly to the growth of the Indian economy.”
The news is quite surprising as recently there have been some border tensions between the two countries. The Indian government recently boycotted over 100+ Chinese apps citing privacy and security concerns, which was assumed as retaliation against Beijing.

Even the British automaker MG Motors is struggling with its sales volumes due to its Chinese parent company. Amidst a discord between the two bordering nations, the news will be no less than wonder if India lifts its barrier for GWM.
GWM Made Its First Appearance At Auto Expo 2020
Earlier this year, GWM made its first appearance at the Indian Auto Expo 2020. At the event, the Chinese automaker showcased few cars, including the GWM Ora R1, which is one of the world’s cheapest electric cars. The automaker also revealed the ‘Haval SUV’ that it’s planning to launch in India.
Around the same time, GWM had announced a budget of around $ 1 billion (Rs 7,000 crores). Also, the company said it will create over 3000 jobs for Indian citizens.
However, all of this will happen only if the Indian government agrees to sign the deal which seems unlikely at present.
If the relations between the two countries get better and this deal gets approved then it might be beneficial for both India and China.
